1. Overview: In this session you become familiar with features of the MS WORD word processing program.

1. Understand the options of the formatting toolbars available in the WORD program
2. Know the differences in the following items: Menu, Standard, Formatting and Web toolbars.
3. How to work with Tools and Automated Features of WORD by changing formatting features in order to circumvent problems when writing according to thesis guidelines.
4. What options may be selected in order to have settings that work best with thesis guidelines.
5. How to set the formatting options for a document.
6. How to create a table for a WORD document.

This workshop is specifically for becoming familiar with the many layers of options available in the WORD program. The notes for this workshop will need to be kept by participants for future reference when they begin working on their thesis. The numerous details given here are essential in preparing to take the more advanced workshops for writing the thesis.

7. Self Test/Quiz

1. To Show/Hide paragraphs, click the:  a. ? symbol on the standard toolbar b. symbol on the standard toolbar c. I symbol on the formatting toolbar

8. Suggested Homework in preparation for Session Five
Visit the tutorial and resource sites given for the WORD workshop. Try at least two of the lessons in two of the tutorials and decide which one is the best style of guidance for your learning style. Be ready to defend your choice in the next class.
