Psychosynthesis

What is psychosynthesis?  It is a transpersonal psychology for ordinary people.  Though it can be used in therapy - it works very well to help the individual help himself.

The essential aim psychosynthesis is to help people discover their true spiritual nature, then to utilise this discovery effectively in everyday life.  Psychosynthesis  helps us to realize our creative potential, increase our ability to function harmoniously in the modern world, and improve the quality of all our relationships.  Central to psychosynthesis  is the power of choice,  intuition, creative insight, acceptance of self as I am, realization of the higher self - an interior experience of comfort, intuitive wisdom and centredness. It is collection of techniques and exercises designed to help us move away from what we don’t want in our lives and towards what we do.  The major techniques in a workshop situation are: meditation, guided imagery, free drawing and writing, journaling, active imagination, movement, one-to-one sharing of experience.

Psychosynthesis is a way of understanding our lives, of helping us to know ourselves and trust in our own processes of growth and unfoldment. Psychosynthesis honours both the individual and the groups to which the individual belongs. It recognises that each of us is constantly growing.  This view point helps to put meaning and value back into life and helps us make decisions about who we are and what we want.

MAJOR ASSUMPTIONS OF PSYCHOSYNTHESIS:

1) We are dominated by everything with which our self is identified.  We can dominate and control everything from which we disidentify.

2)The future has as much power over us as does the past.

3) Every mental image has in itself a motor element - an idea “triggers” and gives life to the waiting muscular system.  Therefore - control your thoughts - control your life.

4)I AM THE CENTRE OF AWARENESS AND WILL.

5) The last frontier is not space.  It is THE IMAGINATION.
